West China International Investment and Cooperation Forum Successfully Held at InterContinental Hotel in Hong Kong 04/24/2009 West China International Investment and Cooperation Forum, hosted by China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and organized by Thornton, raised its curtains at the InterContinental Hotel in Hong Kong on April 20th, 2009. The conference hall was filled with over 200 delegates from active Chinese, Hong Kong and Macao Commercial Chambers and Associations and also provincial, municipal governments and corporations in West China and overseas strategic and financial investors like HSBC, WestLB, HSH Nordbank, Industrial Bank of Taiwan, Macquarie Capital Securities, China Everbright Limited, Nomura International (Hong Kong) Limited etc. They discussed the investment climate in the infrastructure and energy sectors of West China under the global financial crisis and pursued cooperation opportunities. Focused on “Investment in Infrastructure and Energy” , this event consisted of an opening ceremony, forum and one-to-one investment matchmaking. Zhang Wei, Executive Vice Chairman of CCPIT and James Bulger, Chairman of Thornton attended and made speeches during the opening ceremony. Thornton Chairman James Bulger briefly overviewed the Sino-US friendship in his speech and stated that West China had vast investment potential for both domestic and overseas investors. On behalf of Thornton and foreign investors, he also blessed the forum a great success. At the forum, 8 projects from Xinjiang, Qinghai, Guangxi, Tibet, Inner Mongolia, Shaanxi and Eco-Solutions, a US design and manufacturing company of wind power equipment, were demonstrated to the attendees, covering various sectors including solar power, port, wind power, and biogas. In the afternoon, one-to-one investment matchmaking was conducted between investors and governmental officers of local business promotion departments or project owners of West China in front of their respective project exhibition booths for the two sides to fully and deeply discuss local investment projects in the fields of energy, infrastructure, environmental protection, minerals, mechanism, logistics etc. West China International Investment and Cooperation Forum has successfully provided an efficient and convenient investment communication platform to the provincial, municipal governments and enterprises and investors at home and abroad. At this forum, West China “went global” and talked to investors face-to-face. Meanwhile, the investors also had a better understanding of West China, which established a foundation for future cooperation.
